A general history of Tippmann paintball guns is provided at the bottom of this page.
Dennis Tippmann Sr. came on the scene in the paintball industry in 1986 and soon after created the his very first paintball gun, the SMG-60. The Smig (what we all called it back in the day) was the very first fully automatic paintball gun, which was spectacular at the time since everyone else had pump gun and the semi automatic was not even out yet! Dennis also revolutionized paintball by pushing things such as constant air (those CO2 tanks that you have today with the pin valve) and even making the first paintball grenades. It is no wonder that Tippmann is still ahead of the game today.
Through the years, Dennis Tippmann based his company on durability and reliability which was a formula for success. From the highly collectible SMG-60 to the US Army paintball guns, Tippmann has always remained on top. If you go to a paintball field, you can always find someone working on their paintball gun or you hear a paintball gun on the field go down along with the usual colorful language to follow. No matter where you are, you will always hear someone tell the poor guy "You should have bought a Tippmann." And is it true, they should have bought a Tippmann. No other company in the paintball industry has the rock solid reputation of a Tippmann.
Through the years, Tippmann released hit after hit such as the Tippmann A-5, X-7, and Phenom. Even the highly anticipated TPX pistol took the whole world by surprise and has become the sidearm of choice on the field and training pistol for the police and military. Tippmann joined up with the US Army to bring to the world paintball guns based on the famous and trusted Model 98. Milsim type markers tend to be expensive, but Tippmann with the help of the US Army brings realism of the military at a price you can afford.
