Important Discontinuation and Compatibility Notice

We’re sorry to inform you that this part is sold out and has been discontinued by the manufacturer. There are no good substitute parts available at this time.

This is the old style Tippmann pull sear (98-35 / 9835), also referred to as a pull spring sear. If your marker uses this style sear, it will have a tab on the end that hooks onto the sear spring.

Because these old style pull sears are no longer manufactured, markers that rely on them are effectively end-of-life unless already functioning properly. Newer Tippmann 98 Custom markers now ship with the A5 or Custom Pro style push sear and spring, and the internal receiver milling has changed. Tippmann has not published a serial number range for when this change occurred.

Markers equipped with pull style sears cannot be converted to the newer push spring style sear systems. The receiver body is internally different. Converting would require replacing both marker bodies, the sear, and typically the hammer. In many cases, the valve body and air lines would also need to be changed. This makes conversion impractical and not cost effective.

A worn sear or rear bolt can cause the marker to rapid fire uncontrollably, similar to a machine gun but too fast to function correctly. The marker may also fail to stay cocked. These problems occur when the rear bolt slips off the sear instead of being held securely in the cocked position.

If either the sear or rear bolt is worn, Tippmann recommends replacing both at the same time. A worn sear will quickly wear down a rear bolt, and a worn rear bolt will damage a new sear. Replacing only one part often results in premature failure and repeated repairs.

If your marker requires this pull style sear for repair, it is considered non-serviceable due to parts availability and incompatibility with newer designs.
